Very often we talk about change. We say that we need to change, we promise that we are going to change, change, change, change….change all over
But what is Change?
According to Merriam Webster, change is defined as:
- “to become different.”
- “to undergo transformation, transition or substitution.”
Cambridge Dictionary defines change as “to make or become different”.
Taking a more business oriented perspective the Business Dictionary defines Organisation Change as “Company or organisation going through a transformation. Organisation change occurs when business strategies or major sections of an organisation are altered. Also known as organisation reorganisation, restructuring and turnaround”.
What are the common points of these definitions? Change is about becoming different, it is about TRANSFORMATION.
But this generates other questions:
- Why do I want to become different?
- Where am I now?
- What do I want to achieve by becoming different?
- What is my objective?
Transformation is something that all of us, people and organisations, go through. Sometimes not because we want to, but because we have to. It is a question of survival.
Somebody once stated that the only way to prevent moving backwards is by constantly moving forward.
How to do it? This is a subject for another day.
